Ready made curtains offer a quick and budget friendly way to dress your windows however they never usually fit exact. A simple shortening can elevate your ready made curtains and give it the wow of made to measure for less. Or maybe you have moved home and brought all your curtains with you and would like them to fit your new home. Sometimes a simple shortening is all that's needed to get them looking brand new again.
For large windows, such as bay windows or bifold doors, ready made curtains often are not wide enough as standard. The most cost effective solution is to have more than one pair of ready made curtains up at the window. However, this can often lead to frustration, where the curtains don't sit well or don't open and close smoothly. The easy solution is to join two curtains together to create one large pair. Don't let the frustration win, get in touch and get them sorted!
Fallen in love with a pair of curtains but the length isn't quite long enough? Well, it's a good job with some unpicking, cutting and stitching, curtains can be lengthened! You could buy an extra pair of curtains, and add a panel along the bottom or if you are feeling bold, it could be a contrasting colour. In the example above, I was repurposing some old curtains and using some leftover fabric to lengthen them. By adding the lace trim along the seam you don't notice at all that their have been altered. Some may call it magic!
Have your curtains seen better days? Curtains that have been hanging in a sunny window for a while may have some sun damage to the leading edge. The leading edge are the edges that sit in the middle, that are often subject to the most sun. The damage starts as discolouration but in time can make the fabric brittle and it will start to tear. Luckily, with almost all curtains there is some flexibility to the width they need to be. So by bringing in the side hem slightly and removing the damage part of the fabric, you can give the curtains a whole new lease of life.
Do you have various windows in the same room? Does it cause a headache trying to work out how best to dress each window? Curtains suit larger or feature windows but roman blinds lend themselves to smaller or more awkward ones. This is when we need to get creative. By buying an extra pair of curtains we can use the fabric and lining to create matching blinds. This is a great, cost effective way of creating a made to measure look for less.
If a blind has been up for a while, you may find it is not running quite as smoothly as it once did. Sometimes the plastic mechanisms and clips on the back can become brittle from sun damage. This can cause the cords to come loose and not run correctly. Luckily, the mechanisms are often easy to replace and can bring your blind back to life. Don't struggle with your blinds anymore, let's get them sorted.
